Silverdale was first called Wade, a corruption of Weiti, and was renamed in 1911. Its historic village core still has the 1885 Holy Trinity Anglican Church and the 1887 Methodist Parsonage, but most homes now sit in Millwater, a masterplanned development of about 260 hectares whose first section sold around 2008. Most housing in the locality was built between 2010 and 2019.

Silverdale's Millwater homes are well sealed, so compact heat pumps and a ventilation system usually beat a single oversized unit. EECA warns that a significantly oversized unit cycles on and off, wastes power and is noisier, so we size from the house, not from habit.

Common Home Types in Silverdale

Most Silverdale homes are 2010s builds in Millwater, insulated and double glazed to modern standards, often two storeys with open-plan living. Heating loads are low, so smaller units, summer cooling and good ventilation matter more than raw capacity. Upstairs bedrooms can overheat in summer, which suits a unit upstairs or a zoned ducted system. The historic village core has much older buildings from the 1880s that need sizing for heat loss, and the business area around the Silverdale Centre needs commercial air conditioning.

What Silverdale Conditions Mean for Heating

Well-sealed Millwater homes can trap moisture from cooking, showers and drying clothes, so a ventilation system or good extraction is often part of the job. Homes near the Weiti River see estuary air, and the wider Hibiscus Coast catches wind off the Gulf, so units need firm mounting. Sections in Millwater are compact, so we keep outdoor units away from neighbours' bedrooms to meet Auckland Council noise limits.

Heat Pumps Silverdale FAQs

What size heat pump does a Millwater home need?

Usually smaller than people expect. Millwater homes are insulated and double glazed, so we calculate the load and avoid oversizing, which EECA notes causes cycling, wasted power and extra noise.

Do new Silverdale homes need a ventilation system?

Many benefit from one. Well-sealed homes hold moisture, and a ventilation system moves it out. In airtight homes, heat recovery ventilation keeps most of the heat while bringing in fresh air.

Why are upstairs rooms in my Millwater home hot in summer?

Warm air rises and modern homes hold heat. A unit upstairs or a zoned ducted system cools the bedrooms properly.

Do you install air conditioning for Silverdale businesses?

Yes. We install and maintain commercial air conditioning for shops and offices around Silverdale as well as heat pumps for homes.
